Why connect Google Ads to VS Code (GitHub Copilot)?

Copilot's agent mode can call MCP tools inside your workspace, so it can read live numbers while it edits code and docs. Connected through Lemonado, it reads your Google Ads campaigns, search terms, PMax and budgets, so it can check budget pacing against the plan with today's numbers.

  • Your whole Google Ads account

Campaigns, ad groups, ads and assets, ready to ask about.

  • Always today's numbers

Performance Max asset groups, synced from Google Ads automatically, so answers use today's numbers.

  • Connect all your tools

Questions like "What's our real ROAS?" use Google Ads and Meta Ads, GA4 at once.

How to connect Google Ads to VS Code (GitHub Copilot)

Before you start

  • A Google Ads account you can sign in to
  • VS Code installed
  • A Lemonado account (the free trial works)
  1. 1

    Connect Google Ads in Lemonado

In Lemonado, open Connectors, find Google Ads and sign in. If you use a manager (MCC) account, choose the client accounts you want, not only the manager.

  2. 2

    Turn on external access

In the company's settings, open External tools, turn the connection on, choose which sources it can reach and copy the server URL.

    https://mcp.lemonado.io/mcp
  3. 3

    Add the server

With AI features on and a project open, run MCP: Add Server from the command palette. Choose HTTP, paste the server URL and name it lemonado.

    https://mcp.lemonado.io/mcp
  4. 4

    Choose where it lives

For your personal Copilot setup, choose Global → Copilot Global. That writes to ~/.copilot/mcp-config.json unless COPILOT_HOME says otherwise.

  5. 5

    Trust and sign in

Accept the trust prompt and sign in to Lemonado. Turn the tools on under Chat: Open Customizations → Tools.

  6. 6

Ask VS Code (GitHub Copilot) about Google Ads

Try "Update the table in docs/kpis.md with last month's Google Ads numbers and add one line on what changed." Or ask: "What did each campaign spend?" or "Which terms keep wasting spend?"

Good to know

  • The older .vscode/mcp.json format still works for the local harness, but VS Code now marks that destination as deprecated. It uses a servers key with type http and the same URL.

What can VS Code (GitHub Copilot) do with Google Ads?

Copilot reads your Google Ads data in agent mode and works the numbers into your code, docs and notebooks in the workspace you have open.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes, through Lemonado. Connect your Google Ads account in Lemonado, add Lemonado with MCP: Add Server in VS Code, and VS Code can check budget pacing against the plan with your live data.

You can. Google publishes an open-source Google Ads MCP server (googleads/google-ads-mcp on GitHub). It's free and read-only, but it runs locally or on your own Cloud Run and needs a Google Cloud project with OAuth credentials. In VS Code that means setting up the Cloud project, credentials and Python yourself. Lemonado is one URL with a normal Google sign-in, and also covers your other channels.

Run MCP: List Servers from the command palette. If lemonado isn't running, start it there, accept the trust prompt and sign in. In Lemonado, check that Google Ads is connected and External tools is on for the company. If you sign in with a manager (MCC) account, ask about a client account by name: the data sits in the client accounts, not the manager.

Yes, if both are connected in Lemonado. One connection reaches every source you allow, so you can ask things like "Put Google Ads spend next to Stripe revenue by week for the last quarter."

MCP is included in Lemonado's paid plans and in the free trial, so you can try it before you pay.
