Why connect Snowflake to Claude Code?

Analytics engineers live in two places: the dbt project in the repo and the warehouse that runs it. Claude Code already reads the repo. With Lemonado it can also query Snowflake and your ad platforms, so it checks a model's output against reality before you merge.

  • All your Snowflake data

Tables and views your role can read, ready to ask about.

  • Always today's numbers

Column names, types and descriptions, synced from Snowflake automatically, so answers use today's numbers.

  • Connect all your tools

Questions like "What does a paying customer cost?" use Snowflake and BigQuery, GA4 at once.

How to connect Snowflake to Claude Code

Before you start

  • A Snowflake account you can sign in to
  • Claude Code installed
  • A Lemonado account (the free trial works)
  1. 1

    Connect Snowflake in Lemonado

In Lemonado, open Connectors, find Snowflake and sign in. Create a read-only role that can use one warehouse and the schemas marketing should see, and connect with that. Keep raw PII schemas out of the grant.

  2. 2

    Turn on external access

In the company's settings, open External tools, turn the connection on, choose which sources it can reach and copy the server URL.

    text
    https://mcp.lemonado.io/mcp
  3. 3

    Add the server

With Claude Code installed, run one of these in your terminal. Most people want the first: it adds Lemonado to every project.

    bash
    # every project (recommended)
claude mcp add --scope user --transport http lemonado https://mcp.lemonado.io/mcp

    # this project only
claude mcp add --transport http lemonado https://mcp.lemonado.io/mcp
  4. 4

Start Claude Code with claude and run /mcp. Choose Lemonado and finish the sign-in in your browser.

    bash
    claude
    /mcp

    Ask Claude Code about Snowflake

Ask a question about the accounts your connection can reach. Claude Code can also write the numbers into a file or a script for you. Try "I rewrote models/marts/fct_orders.sql. Query the current version in Snowflake and compare totals by day for October with what my new SQL would return." Or ask: "Which models are stale?" or "Can it test the spend model?"

Good to know

  • The command uses Claude Code's default local scope. Use --scope user to share the server across projects.

What can Claude Code do with Snowflake?

Claude Code queries your Snowflake data while it works in your repo: it saves data as files, checks tracking against code and runs headless with claude -p.

Claude Code logoClaude Code

I rewrote models/marts/fct_orders.sql. Query the current version in Snowflake and compare totals by day for October with what my new SQL would return.

Totals match on 29 of 31 days. On Oct 12 and 13 the new model counts split shipments twice, because the join on order_lines now runs before the dedupe.

Frequently Asked Questions

Snowflake's managed server answers from what's already in Snowflake, after an admin sets it up. Lemonado connects with a read-only role you choose and also reaches Google Ads, Meta and GA4 live, so Claude Code can check your models against the platforms they come from.

Yes. Snowflake's managed MCP server is hosted, so Claude Code can use it too. It covers Snowflake only. Lemonado covers Snowflake plus your ad platforms, GA4 and the rest of your stack in one connection, so Claude Code can answer questions across them.

Run claude mcp list to see whether lemonado is connected. If it needs authentication, run /mcp inside Claude Code and sign in again. In Lemonado, check that Snowflake is connected and External tools is on for the company. If a table is missing, the role can't see it. Grant USAGE on its database and schema and SELECT on the table, then ask again.

Yes, if both are connected in Lemonado. One connection reaches every source you allow, so you can ask things like "Join first orders from Snowflake with Meta and Google Ads spend by month this year. What did each new customer cost per channel?"

MCP is included in Lemonado's paid plans and in the free trial, so you can try it before you pay.
