Why connect GA4 to Claude Code?

Most GA4 problems start in code: an event renamed, a parameter dropped, a consent banner blocking tags. Claude Code reads the tracking code and the GA4 data side by side and tells you which event broke and when.

  • All your GA4 data

Sessions, users and engagement, ready to ask about.

  • Always today's numbers

Landing pages and page paths, synced from GA4 automatically, so answers use today's numbers.

  • Connect all your tools

Questions like "What does a conversion cost by channel?" use GA4 and Google Ads, Search Console at once.

How to connect GA4 to Claude Code

Before you start

  • A Google Analytics account you can sign in to
  • Claude Code installed
  • A Lemonado account (the free trial works)
  1. 1

    Connect Google Analytics in Lemonado

In Lemonado, open Connectors, find Google Analytics and sign in. Choose the GA4 property your site sends data to. The property, not the account, holds the data.

  2. 2

    Turn on external access

In the company's settings, open External tools, turn the connection on, choose which sources it can reach and copy the server URL.

    text
    https://mcp.lemonado.io/mcp
  3. 3

    Add the server

With Claude Code installed, run one of these in your terminal. Most people want the first: it adds Lemonado to every project.

    bash
    # every project (recommended)
claude mcp add --scope user --transport http lemonado https://mcp.lemonado.io/mcp

    # this project only
claude mcp add --transport http lemonado https://mcp.lemonado.io/mcp
  4. 4

Start Claude Code with claude and run /mcp. Choose Lemonado and finish the sign-in in your browser.

    bash
    claude
    /mcp

    Ask Claude Code about GA4

Ask a question about the accounts your connection can reach. Claude Code can also write the numbers into a file or a script for you. Try "List every gtag event we send in the codebase and check which ones GA4 hasn't recorded in the last 7 days." Or ask: "Which pages lost their route?" or "Are our events firing?"

Good to know

  • The command uses Claude Code's default local scope. Use --scope user to share the server across projects.

What can Claude Code do with GA4?

Claude Code queries your GA4 data while it works in your repo: it saves data as files, checks tracking against code and runs headless with claude -p.

List every gtag event we send in the codebase and check which ones GA4 hasn't recorded in the last 7 days.

31 events in code, 28 in GA4. "begin_checkout" stopped on Oct 3, the day CheckoutButton.tsx was refactored and the gtag call moved behind a feature flag.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes, two. Google's open-source Analytics MCP server runs locally and needs a Google Cloud project with the Analytics APIs turned on. Lemonado is one claude mcp add command, signs in with Google and also reaches your ad accounts.

You can. Google publishes an open-source Google Analytics MCP server (googleanalytics/google-analytics-mcp on GitHub). It's free, read-only and labeled experimental. It runs locally and needs a Google Cloud project with the Analytics Admin and Data APIs turned on. In Claude Code that means setting up the Cloud project, credentials and Python yourself. Lemonado is one URL with a normal Google sign-in, and also covers your other channels.

Run claude mcp list to see whether lemonado is connected. If it needs authentication, run /mcp inside Claude Code and sign in again. In Lemonado, check that Google Analytics is connected and External tools is on for the company. If numbers look low, check that you picked the GA4 property for the right site. GA4 can take a day or two to finish processing recent data.

Yes, if both are connected in Lemonado. One connection reaches every source you allow, so you can ask things like "Cost per GA4 conversion by channel, using Google Ads and Meta spend."

MCP is included in Lemonado's paid plans and in the free trial, so you can try it before you pay.
