MCP (Model Context Protocol)

MCP is a shared way for AI chat tools to connect to your data. MCP stands for Model Context Protocol. In marketing, that means ChatGPT or Claude can look at live ads and sales numbers through one connection, instead of a custom plug-in for each tool. Lemonado's MCP connections can read data. They cannot change your ads.

What MCP means in AI

In AI, MCP is Model Context Protocol: an open standard so assistants can connect to tools and data through one interface. Most searches for the letters MCP are Minecraft servers or Microsoft certifications. If you landed here from a Minecraft query, this page will not help you join a world. If you landed here from a marketing AI query, keep reading.

Why marketers should care

Teams already live in ChatGPT and Claude. Those tools do not know yesterday's spend unless you paste a CSV. MCP (Model Context Protocol) is the pipe. One server, many clients. That is why it shows up in every AI marketing conversation in 2026.

Let's take a software company as an example. They sell a monthly tool to plumbing businesses. The software is CRM (customer relationship software) that helps a plumber keep jobs and follow-ups in one place. The software company buys Google and LinkedIn. Their two-person marketing team already asks Claude to draft emails. Without MCP (Model Context Protocol), Claude does not know that LinkedIn demo CPA (cost per acquisition: ad spend divided by demo requests) jumped from $50 to $90 this week. With a read-only MCP connection, they can ask in the chat they already use, on live data, without exporting a sheet.

For agencies, MCP (Model Context Protocol) is also a client boundary. Let's take a software company as an example. They sell a monthly tool to plumbing businesses. One connection per brand means a model working on the software company cannot see another software client. That is the difference between a useful marketing MCP and a shared token that leaks.

How to read the words

An MCP (Model Context Protocol) server exposes tools and data. An MCP client (ChatGPT, Claude, Cursor) calls them. A marketing MCP that can write to ad accounts is a different risk than one that can only read. Lemonado's connections are read-only on purpose. Let's take a software company as an example. They sell a monthly tool to plumbing businesses. The software company's ChatGPT window can query spend. It cannot pause a campaign or move a budget. The AI co-worker that executes work is Lemonado itself, with human in the loop controls on the jobs you hand off. Lemonado connects to 3,000+ tools. The MCP pipe into outside chat tools stays read-only.

Read-only is a feature. A write-capable MCP (Model Context Protocol) into Google Ads is a spending bot with extra steps. If the job is to act, do it inside the product that already has approvals, not through a chat window that happens to have a token. Lemonado itself can execute and write in ads accounts where the user allows it. Outside MCP connections cannot.

Common MCP mistakes

  • Standing up an MCP (Model Context Protocol) that can spend money, then sharing the URL in Slack. Let's take a software company as an example. They sell a monthly tool to plumbing businesses. The software company does not want Claude able to raise LinkedIn budgets from a laptop at a cafe.
  • Assuming any MCP (Model Context Protocol) means the model has your company's definitions. Without governed data, it still guesses what the software company means by a qualified demo. Let's take a software company as an example. They sell a monthly tool to plumbing businesses. A plumber filling a form is not the same as a paying subscriber unless you said so.
  • Calling a read-only MCP (Model Context Protocol) agentic AI that can run the account. Querying last week's CPA (cost per acquisition) is not doing the work.

Lemonado

How Lemonado helps with MCP

Lemonado exposes your marketing stack as an MCP connection (Model Context Protocol: a way to plug ChatGPT, Claude, Cursor, or n8n into your marketing data): one click, scoped to a brand or client, read-only. ChatGPT, Claude, Cursor, and n8n can ask questions on live data. They cannot pause a campaign or move a budget. Writes stay inside Lemonado, with you.

MCP (Model Context Protocol) is on Automate and up. The same governed data the AI co-worker uses in Chat is what those tools see. No extra CSV, no token spreadsheet. Lemonado connects to 3,000+ tools. The MCP pipe into outside chat tools stays read-only.
