Why connect Semrush to n8n?

n8n runs on triggers and schedules, so a question you ask once can become a check that runs every morning. Connected through Lemonado, it reads your Semrush keywords, positions, competitors and backlinks, so it can find keyword gaps against competitors with today's numbers.

  • All your Semrush data

Organic keyword positions and changes, ready to ask about.

  • Always today's numbers

Competitor domains and their top keywords, synced from Semrush automatically, so answers use today's numbers.

  • Connect all your tools

Questions like "Are we paying for rankings we have?" use Semrush and Search Console, Ahrefs at once.

How to connect Semrush to n8n

Before you start

  • A Semrush account you can sign in to
  • n8n installed
  • A Lemonado account (the free trial works)
  1. 1

    Connect Semrush in Lemonado

In Lemonado, open Connectors, find Semrush and sign in. Use a Semrush account on a plan with API access, and add your domain and main competitors as projects.

  2. 2

    Turn on external access

In the company's settings, open External tools, turn the connection on, choose which sources it can reach and copy the server URL.

    https://mcp.lemonado.io/mcp
  3. 3

    Create a token in Lemonado

In External tools, open your connection's guide, choose n8n, pick an expiry and click Generate Token. Copy it.

  4. 4

    Add the MCP Client Tool

In your workflow, add an AI Agent node, then add an MCP Client Tool under its tools. Use node version 1.1 or later; version 1 only speaks SSE.

  5. 5

    Configure it

Set the endpoint to the server URL, the transport to HTTP Streamable (pick it yourself on node version 1.1, which defaults to SSE) and authentication to Bearer Auth. Create a Bearer Auth credential and paste the raw token, without a "Bearer " prefix.

    https://mcp.lemonado.io/mcp
  6. 6

    Test and save

Test the connection, save the workflow and ask the agent about your data.

  7. 7

    Ask n8n about Semrush

Try "Every morning at 8, check yesterday's Semrush numbers and post anything unusual to #marketing." Or ask: "Which keywords moved this week?" or "Did a competitor move in?"

Good to know

  • If the MCP Client Tool only shows an SSE Endpoint field, it's the version 1 node: replace it with a newer one. Keep the /mcp URL and choose HTTP Streamable.
  • Regenerating a token in Lemonado invalidates the old one, so update n8n when you do.

What can n8n do with Semrush?

n8n's AI Agent reads your Semrush data on a trigger or a schedule, then posts, logs or files the result in the next node.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes, through Lemonado. Connect your Semrush account in Lemonado, add Lemonado as an MCP Client Tool on an n8n AI Agent node, and n8n can find keyword gaps against competitors with your live data.

Yes. Semrush's official MCP server is hosted, so n8n can use it too. It covers Semrush only. Lemonado covers Semrush plus your ad platforms, GA4 and the rest of your stack in one connection, so n8n can answer questions across them.

Use Test step on the MCP Client Tool. A 401 means the token expired or was regenerated, so paste a new one into the Bearer credential. In Lemonado, check that Semrush is connected and External tools is on for the company. If answers stop halfway, check your Semrush API units. Every request uses some, and Semrush stops answering when they run out.

Yes, if both are connected in Lemonado. One connection reaches every source you allow, so you can ask things like "Google Ads keywords with spend last month next to our Semrush position for the same keyword."

MCP is included in Lemonado's paid plans and in the free trial, so you can try it before you pay.
