Connect Google Sheets to Cursor

  • Do our names follow the rules?

Use Google Sheets in Cursor: pull targets, plans and naming rules into the code that reports on them. Lemonado connects them in about 2 minutes, no API keys needed.

Why connect Google Sheets to Cursor?

When naming rules or targets sit in a sheet, code drifts away from them. Cursor's agent reads the sheet through Lemonado and checks your config, UTM helpers and live campaigns against it.

  • All your Google Sheets data

    Any tab you connect, as a table, ready to ask about.

  • Always today's numbers

    Targets and forecasts, synced from Google Sheets automatically, so answers use today's numbers.

  • Connect all your tools

    Questions like "Is the forecast holding?" use Google Sheets and GA4, Google Ads at once.

How to connect Google Sheets to Cursor

Before you start

  • A Google Sheets account you can sign in to
  • Cursor installed
  • A Lemonado account (the free trial works)
  1. 1

    Connect Google Sheets in Lemonado

    In Lemonado, open Connectors, find Google Sheets and sign in. Choose the spreadsheets you want AI to read. Keep column names in the first row of each tab.

  2. 2

    Turn on external access

    In the company's settings, open External tools, turn the connection on, choose which sources it can reach and copy the server URL.

    text
    https://mcp.lemonado.io/mcp
  3. 3

    Open your MCP config

    Open ~/.cursor/mcp.json for every project, or .cursor/mcp.json for this project only. Create the file if it doesn't exist.

  4. 4

    Add Lemonado

    Merge this into the file and save.

    json
    {
      "mcpServers": {
        "lemonado": {
          "url": "https://mcp.lemonado.io/mcp"
        }
      }
    }
  5. 5

    Sign in

    Cursor asks you to sign in to Lemonado. Approve access, then ask the agent about your data.

  6. 6

    Ask Cursor about Google Sheets

    Try "Read the naming rules sheet and update utils/utm.ts so it builds campaign names that follow them. Then list live campaigns that break the rules." Or ask: "What's in the media plan?" or "Which names break the rules?"

Good to know

  • Editing the file directly avoids relying on menu labels that change between Cursor versions.

What can Cursor do with Google Sheets?

Cursor's agent reads your Google Sheets data while it edits: it fills components with real data, checks tracking code and writes the analysis next to your code.

Read the naming rules sheet and update utils/utm.ts so it builds campaign names that follow them. Then list live campaigns that break the rules.

Updated buildCampaignName() to the sheet's channel_region_product format. 6 live campaigns break it: 4 in Meta and 2 in Google Ads.

Frequently Asked Questions

Connect the spreadsheet in Lemonado and add the Lemonado server to Cursor's mcp.json. The agent can then read any tab you've connected as a table, next to your code and your ad data.

Open Cursor's settings and find lemonado in the MCP list. A red dot or a sign-in prompt means the login expired. Restart Cursor after editing mcp.json. In Lemonado, check that Google Sheets is connected and External tools is on for the company. If a tab is missing, check it's in a spreadsheet you connected and that the Google account you used can open it.

Yes, if both are connected in Lemonado. One connection reaches every source you allow, so you can ask things like "Compare the revenue forecast sheet with actual Stripe revenue so far this quarter."

MCP is included in Lemonado's paid plans and in the free trial, so you can try it before you pay.
