Connect BigQuery to Cursor

  • Did my change break purchase data?

Check the tracking you're editing in Cursor against the GA4 events that land in BigQuery. Lemonado connects them in about 2 minutes, no API keys needed.

Why connect BigQuery to Cursor?

When you change a dataLayer push or a checkout step, you usually find out it broke analytics a week later. Cursor's agent sees the change as you write it. With Lemonado it can query the GA4 export in BigQuery the next morning and tell you exactly which parameters went missing.

  • All your BigQuery data

    Datasets and tables your account can read, ready to ask about.

  • Always today's numbers

    Google Ads and Search Console bulk exports, if you run them, synced from BigQuery automatically, so answers use today's numbers.

  • Connect all your tools

    Questions like "What did paid sessions earn?" use BigQuery and GA4, Snowflake at once.

How to connect BigQuery to Cursor

Before you start

  • A Google BigQuery account you can sign in to
  • Cursor installed
  • A Lemonado account (the free trial works)
  1. 1

    Connect Google BigQuery in Lemonado

    In Lemonado, open Connectors, find Google BigQuery and sign in. Sign in with a Google account that can read the dataset holding your GA4 export, and pick that project. The BigQuery Data Viewer and Job User roles are enough.

  2. 2

    Turn on external access

    In the company's settings, open External tools, turn the connection on, choose which sources it can reach and copy the server URL.

    text
    https://mcp.lemonado.io/mcp
  3. 3

    Open your MCP config

    Open ~/.cursor/mcp.json for every project, or .cursor/mcp.json for this project only. Create the file if it doesn't exist.

  4. 4

    Add Lemonado

    Merge this into the file and save.

    json
    {
      "mcpServers": {
        "lemonado": {
          "url": "https://mcp.lemonado.io/mcp"
        }
      }
    }
  5. 5

    Sign in

    Cursor asks you to sign in to Lemonado. Approve access, then ask the agent about your data.

  6. 6

    Ask Cursor about BigQuery

    Try "I changed the purchase event in lib/analytics.ts on Tuesday. Compare purchase events in the BigQuery export before and after: count, value and how often each parameter is filled." Or ask: "Which pages send no events?" or "Is consent mode working?"

Good to know

  • Editing the file directly avoids relying on menu labels that change between Cursor versions.

What can Cursor do with BigQuery?

Cursor's agent reads your BigQuery data while it edits: it fills components with real data, checks tracking code and writes the analysis next to your code.

Cursor logoCursor

I changed the purchase event in lib/analytics.ts on Tuesday. Compare purchase events in the BigQuery export before and after: count, value and how often each parameter is filled.

Purchase count is steady, but value is empty on 34% of events since Tuesday. The new code reads order.total, which is undefined for orders with a gift card.

Frequently Asked Questions

Not with Lemonado. You sign in with Google once in Lemonado, and Cursor connects to Lemonado with one URL in mcp.json. No key file sits in your repo or on your machine.

Yes. Google's BigQuery MCP server is hosted, so Cursor can use it too. It covers Google BigQuery only. Lemonado covers Google BigQuery plus your ad platforms, GA4 and the rest of your stack in one connection, so Cursor can answer questions across them.

Open Cursor's settings and find lemonado in the MCP list. A red dot or a sign-in prompt means the login expired. Restart Cursor after editing mcp.json. In Lemonado, check that Google BigQuery is connected and External tools is on for the company. If yesterday's GA4 data is missing, the daily export may not have landed yet. GA4 writes the events_ table for a day several hours after it ends.

Yes, if both are connected in Lemonado. One connection reaches every source you allow, so you can ask things like "Compare Meta link clicks by day this month with sessions from facebook / paid in the GA4 export."

MCP is included in Lemonado's paid plans and in the free trial, so you can try it before you pay.
