Why connect Ahrefs to n8n?

n8n runs on triggers and schedules, so a question you ask once can become a check that runs every morning. Connected through Lemonado, it reads your Ahrefs backlinks, organic keywords, top pages and domain Rating, so it can see which pages carry organic traffic with today's numbers.

  • All your Ahrefs data

Backlinks, new and lost, ready to ask about.

  • Always today's numbers

Organic keywords and positions, synced from Ahrefs automatically, so answers use today's numbers.

  • Connect all your tools

Questions like "Do estimates match real clicks?" use Ahrefs and Search Console, Semrush at once.

How to connect Ahrefs to n8n

Before you start

  • A Ahrefs account you can sign in to
  • n8n installed
  • A Lemonado account (the free trial works)
  1. 1

    Connect Ahrefs in Lemonado

In Lemonado, open Connectors, find Ahrefs and sign in. Use an Ahrefs account on a paid plan with API access. Free and trial accounts can't share data.

  2. 2

    Turn on external access

In the company's settings, open External tools, turn the connection on, choose which sources it can reach and copy the server URL.

    https://mcp.lemonado.io/mcp
  3. 3

    Create a token in Lemonado

In External tools, open your connection's guide, choose n8n, pick an expiry and click Generate Token. Copy it.

  4. 4

    Add the MCP Client Tool

In your workflow, add an AI Agent node, then add an MCP Client Tool under its tools. Use node version 1.1 or later; version 1 only speaks SSE.

  5. 5

    Configure it

Set the endpoint to the server URL, the transport to HTTP Streamable (pick it yourself on node version 1.1, which defaults to SSE) and authentication to Bearer Auth. Create a Bearer Auth credential and paste the raw token, without a "Bearer " prefix.

    https://mcp.lemonado.io/mcp
  6. 6

    Test and save

Test the connection, save the workflow and ask the agent about your data.

  7. 7

    Ask n8n about Ahrefs

Try "Every morning at 8, check yesterday's Ahrefs numbers and post anything unusual to #marketing." Or ask: "Which links did we lose?" or "Is a competitor page taking off?"

Good to know

  • If the MCP Client Tool only shows an SSE Endpoint field, it's the version 1 node: replace it with a newer one. Keep the /mcp URL and choose HTTP Streamable.
  • Regenerating a token in Lemonado invalidates the old one, so update n8n when you do.

What can n8n do with Ahrefs?

n8n's AI Agent reads your Ahrefs data on a trigger or a schedule, then posts, logs or files the result in the next node.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes, through Lemonado. Connect your Ahrefs account in Lemonado, add Lemonado as an MCP Client Tool on an n8n AI Agent node, and n8n can see which pages carry organic traffic with your live data.

Yes. Ahrefs' official MCP server is hosted, so n8n can use it too. It covers Ahrefs only. Lemonado covers Ahrefs plus your ad platforms, GA4 and the rest of your stack in one connection, so n8n can answer questions across them.

Use Test step on the MCP Client Tool. A 401 means the token expired or was regenerated, so paste a new one into the Bearer credential. In Lemonado, check that Ahrefs is connected and External tools is on for the company. If Ahrefs returns nothing, check that your plan includes API access and has units left. Each request uses some.

Yes, if both are connected in Lemonado. One connection reaches every source you allow, so you can ask things like "Compare Ahrefs' estimated traffic for our top 20 pages with Search Console clicks for the same pages last month."

MCP is included in Lemonado's paid plans and in the free trial, so you can try it before you pay.
